Towering above New York Harbor is the Statue of Liberty.
The Statue Of Liberty at night
With freedom's torch held high, this stately lady has beckoned millions of people who were choking from the stifling air of oppression.
They've been drawn to what that monument symbolizes --
Freedom.
Freedom.
On Lady Liberty's pedestal are these words from Emma Lazarus' poem "The New Colossus":
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses
yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse
of your teeming shore;
Send these, the homeless,
tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp
beside the golden door.
A different monument towers over history, offering a spiritual freedom to enslaved people everywhere.
It's the cross where Jesus hung 2,000 years ago.
ODM- Cross
We see the sinless Son of God dying in our place for our sins.
We hear the words, "Father, forgive them" (Luke 23:34) and "It is finished!" (John 19:30).As we trust in Christ as our Savior, the burden of guilt rolls from our souls.

My 10 year old just studied the poem "The New Colosus" this past week. Great post here and it was so nice to see you had dropped over at my place while I've been away!
Beautiful post, Mimi. I love that picture of the cross!
The only thing I could think of when I saw the Statue of Liberty is these two bank opening we have had in the area--these guys are outside dressed in a statue of liberty out fit--really weird one --motioning in front of the banks. Not sure what the outfits have to do with the banks?!
Freedom always comes at a price. Great post.

Mom, Do you or Dad remember that song Statue of Liberty by Neil Enloe?
Okay I searched online. Here's an excerpt (the beginning of the two verses). I'm sure it's copyrighted, so I didn't want to put the whole of it here without the publisher's permission.
In New York Harbor stands a lady, with a torch raised to the sky,
And all who see her knows she stands for liberty for you and I...
On lonely Golgotha stood a cross, with my lord raised to the sky,
And all who kneel there live forever,
as all the saved can testify...
