Invitation to Ambiguity

I like neat, black-and-white solutions to life, Lord,
But the existence you invite me into is ambiguous;

There is the Miracle of Isaac,
but there is also the fact of Ishmael.

Like Sarah, I would like to banish
what doesn't fit into my scheme;

But your scheme is larger than mine.

Show me how to live in your larger providence.

Amen

Thank you for the beautiful quote from Eugene Peterson. I'm reading through the Bible with The Message this year and it's really fun.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your grands. Glad you're back home safe and sound!
