My, Brother, How We Have Changed
When I was a young girl we lived on a farm in Arkansas for a span of 5 years.
My sister (Sarah){on the right}, My brother (Laurence){in the center}, and I {on the left} were the youngest three children in a family of nine children.
If you notice our dresses are made just alike and they are made from flour and chicken feed sacks...We always picked out the patterns we wanted when the flour and seed was purchased.
We could not help with the major chores of the farm, but Sarah and I always had to wash the jars used in canning while our mother and older sisters did the preparation of the vegetables (we had a very large garden, with lots of vegetables, and we also had several fruit trees).
Since Laurence was the baby, he mostly just got in the way when there was work to be done, so Sarah and I also had the additional chore of watching him and keeping him out of trouble!
We have all grown up and live in different states, but we stay in touch by telephone, and once in a blue moon we manage to get together for a visit.
As always there were not enough chairs for everyone,
and I was the one left standing.
Love you guys
Mimi

I love the vintage pictures on your site!
The childhood photo is awesome. I love your dresses.
Grandma made a lot of things out of flour sacks but they only came in white. First she would have to bleach the bags to get the name of the flour company to come out. It was in red and it was difficult to get all of it out. Then she would dye the cloth to suit her needs.
It's nice that you and your siblings get together and still enjoy each other's company. Thank you for sharing this bit of history. I enjoyed my visit, as always and am glad you visited me in Grandma's Kitchen.
Blessings for a great Mother's Day weekend.
Mary
