LISTEN TO GOD... in the silence

"Now a word was secretly brought to me,
And my ear received a whisper of it."
(Job 4:12 NJKV)

Long ago Elijah, the prophet, sought God's message in a hurricane, in an earthquake and in a fire, but it finally came to him in 'the soft whisper of a voice'.

Present day disciples must be able to recognize God's messages, which come in many different ways, not always expressed in Scriptural terms.

It is unwise to have a preconceived idea of how God will make His will known to you.
  • If you decide that God will speak to you in a certain way, you may miss His message if it comes in a different form.
To be able to discern a Divine message requires close fellowship with the Divine Father. Without such intimacy there is always the danger of mistaking your personal desires for the Will of God.

When this happens the spiritual life experiences chaos and contradiction and it is impossible to go forward with confidence and courage.

Greater Love by Danny Hahlbohm
Greater Love

To spend time alone with God in the Silence is not an easy discipline, but it is most essential if you are to bring your spirit into harmony with God's Holy Spirit.
  • At first you may be troubled by wandering thoughts and other disruptive influences, but with perseverance you will come to the time when thoughts of God will control your thinking.
  • His Presence then becomes real to you. you will know that He wants you to do, and you will receive His messages with confidence.

Teach me, O Lord, to know You more intimately
so that I may understand what you are saying to me.

Mimi,I always enjoy my visits with you. You always seem to have the right post and the right message when I need to "hear" it. Hugs and God's Blessing.Mike G. said that! (its an A.A. thing)

This is a great reminder for me Mimi. I need to be more faithful in sitting quietly with God. So many times i tend to get caught up with all around me instead of taking that moment in the day with him. Have you ever read the book Forever ruined for the Ordinary written by Joy Dawson? That book helped me see the importance of constantly sitting with God and sharing ones thoughts with him.

Time for me to get back in the routine of doing exactly that.

Hugs and blessings sent your way Mimi

Mimi,
Thank you for that wonderful post to remind us to be silent before the Lord. It make me think of the scripture of Proverbs 3:5,6.
So glad you are back,
Miriam :)

I'm glad that your life is settling in again - disruption is exhausting.

I hope you don't mind this kind of comment.

A Still Small Voice (11/8/01)

Disaster
brought the seeker, looking
for oily fingerprints,
dropped motivations,
blood samples, clues,
an explanation.

A great wind in Oklahoma
dropped the pressure, funneled
air from his lungs, left him
gasping like Darwin’s earthbound fish.

An earthquake in LA broke
an apple tree over him, cracked
his rib, drove him
from the “Promised Land.”

Forest fires in Yellowstone
burned his retina, left ashes
in his hands, scorched
the soles of his feet.

He retired, sat on the porch
of a dilapidated house, watched
the sun track shadows
through his days.

A butterfly landed
on his cheek, a thousand
microscopic feathers brushed
his ear and on that small breath
of air, a whisper.

Tracy,
you have come such a long way in your walk with The Lord...I haven't read the book...It sounds like it would be a very interesting and spiritually useful book.
