The Burro

Silhouetted Man Leads a Donkey Bearing a Pregnant Woman,

Reminiscent of Joseph and Mary, Israel

Did the little burro know
He carried a Prince unborn?

The town was far away --
The road was dusty and worn.
The little burro was patient;
His burden was not light.

Joseph led the way
'Til Bethlehem was in sight.

View of Bethlehem,

The burro followed the lantern
As the innkeeper showed the way.

The little animal lay to rest
Near Mary in the hay.

The burro closed his eyes
Until he heard a cry --
'Twas a joyous sound of glory
From angels in the sky.

What secret was the burro's
As he trudged on tired and worn?

He knew he carried salvation
In the Prince of Peace unborn.
