That Wooden Beam

A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.(Mark 15:21 NIV)

True Love by Patrick H Porter Jr
True Love

For Simon it was just a hunk of wood.
He was strong and the Romans had swords. He would carry it.

For us,
it's a cross,
a symbol rich in meaning,
and the man Simon helped was the world's Savior.
Who wouldn't do as much?
If we were there, we would gladly have come forward to help Jesus.

We bear the cross,
not because we love pain,
but because Jesus loves us.
It's the Christians' way of saying to everyone:
I have died with Christ,
this Savior has first place in my heart,
and I will serve him as Lord.

Today the cross comes in different shapes.
Christians must shoulder it when they suffer loss for Christ's sake--
enduring a dread disease, losing a friend or a job,
remaining chaste while unmarried, and a thousand more.

Let us carry the cross courageously.

This is beautiful. The song The Old Rugged Cross, is a favorite of mine. My dad played it on the piano often.

What great love spread across the cross of Jesus!
Will we ever know the full measure of His love??

i have to admit i don't carry my cross with joy all the time ... i hope that i can learn to do that - as i mature & grow in Him ...
