The Sonship Of Jesus

Eternal Life by Richard Judson Zolan
  • Each man has put together the picture of Jesus for himself.
One may look at his hands and say, "Behold the healing hands of Jesus!"
Another would look at his feet and say, "How beautiful...are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings!" (Isa. 52:7).
Another would look at the wound in his side and say, "He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed" (Isa. 53:5)

There are good physicians, but He is The Great Physician.
There are men of peace, but He is The Prince of Peace.
There are some men who are godlike, but He is The Son of God.

His unusual birth indicated He was the Son of God. The manner in which He was able to die indicated that he was the Son of God. At his baptism, the descent of the Holy Spirit from heaven indicated that he was the Son of God. His ascension, when he was received back into the portals of heaven, indicated that he was the Son of God.

His contemporaries were conscious of his power during his ministry. They recognized that he had unusual power. The problem was that they said it was not the power of God, it could be the power of Satan (see Luke 11:15). They looked at him and said, "who is he?"

In those days following his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, they looked at him as he stood before Pilate who, "when he had scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified" (Matt. 27:26) At his resurrection, there was display of his supernatural power.

In the Old Testament, a major concept of God was one of anger, wrath, and judgment. Jesus came and walked among men in love, not in opposition to the character of God, but in order to clarify it in the minds and hearts of men. The could not fully understand the character of God until it was revealed in the face of Christ. "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father... I and my Father are one!" (John 14:9b)

Jesus came, not just that we might have more possessions, not that we might have a whole body, not just that we might be better liked, not just that we might have a more abundant life. "The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). We are worth all the world to him.

Salvation is not to be found in works, but only in Jesus. "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."(Acts
4:12)

Only one word opens the doors of heaven, and that is the name of Jesus. you can knock on the door with wealth in your hand, and it will remain closed. You can knock on the door with works in your hand, and the voice from heaven will never answer. Only if you claim Jesus will the door be opened.
Jacob's Ladder by William Blake

The Son of God said, "Whosoever, therefore, shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father, who is in heaven" (Matt. 10:32).

Whose Son is he -- to you?

This is an interesting look at Jesus. It covers at lot of ground (like an overview) but binds it all together under His Sonship ~ very interesting. It ties is perfectly with our Bible lesson this morning - Hebrews 1-3. I'm going to run this off to read tomorrow before we start chapter 4.
